White Mountain Scenery
White Mountain Views - Franklin White of Lancaster, NH was a contemporary of John P. Soule, Franklin Gage, and a mentor for the Kilburn Brothers.
Franklin White 1813 - 1870 issued his stereoscopic views on glass slides. A catalog issued in 1859 indicates the breadth of his work. He and brother Luther White of Montpelier, VT were attracting young photo-enthusiasts as helpers to cover demands of the growing tourist communities. As they went about the task of making pictures, they also taught the next generation of commercial photographers.
Among the host of young photographic artists attracted, the most notable were Franklin Weller, O. C. Bolton, Edward and Benjamin Kilburn.
